More Dasha More Dasha

Viral country-pop sensation Dasha has spoken about the real-life inspiration behind her smash hit single, Austin, sharing information about who was once her boyfriend.

In a new interview with Taste Of Country, the singer revealed that the mystery figure behind her hit single is “fully aware” that Austin is about him and that she hasn’t “heard a peep from him in probably over a year.”

She continued, “He’s probably like, ‘Damn. Damn.’ You know? Which is the reaction I want.”

Adding that the real-life character behind the song has a new girlfriend, Dasha doesn’t believe the song has affected him too much.

“I don't think he really cares that much ‘cause I’m not throwing his name out there, you know? No one knows who it's about ‘cause that's just rude.”

She closed the subject by saying, “I wish him the best... great guy, I just, like, don't need him in my life.”

The 24-year-old singer has been releasing music since 2020, but the music world has been hers this year – and will likely continue to be for a long time.

Her debut country single, Austin, has taken America by storm, landing at #3 on the US Country Singles Chart. It’s also done well elsewhere, reaching #10 in Australia, #11 in Canada, #6 in Ireland, #7 in the UK, and charted in New Zealand, Norway, Germany, and the overall US Singles Chart. In Australia, Dasha’s country breakthrough single has gone Platinum.

The song has also become a relatable calling card for anyone in the same situation as the singer, with lyrics like “Did your boots stop workin'? / Did your truck break down? / Did you burn through money? / Did your ex find out? / Where there's a will, then there's a way / And I'm damn sure you lost it / Didn't even say goodbye / Just wish I knew what caused it”.

Earlier this year, Dasha released her debut country album, What Happens Now?, featuring the singles Austin and Didn't I, which was recently sent to radio.

The pop-country singer said of her latest single in a statement, “Didn’t I is so nostalgic, there’s something about my past that intrigues me, including the men.

“In the writer’s room, I was referring to a time months and months ago when I was backsliding into the guy that Austin is about. It’s admitting, like, ‘Oops, here I am again, my bad,’ but I love how we made it lighthearted and fun.”
