Dasha is preparing to take a break to look after her health.

In a new interview with Billboard, the Austin hitmaker revealed that, on Thursday, 22 October, she’ll be undergoing surgery to remove nodes from her vocal cords. The singer—real name Anna Dasha Novotny—explained that she’s having the surgery after two years in the spotlight performing, which has caught up with her.

“It’s from the past two-and-a-half years of craziness that just hit me like a truck,” she told Billboard. “You don’t really get a lot of sleep. You talk, talk, talk, and you party and you sing. It just caught up with me.”

Dasha will have the surgery at the Vanderbilt University Medical Centre in Nashville, where numerous artists have undergone the same procedure, including Jordan Davis. “He had the same doctor I do, so knowing someone that went exactly through the same thing as me calms me down so much,” she said.

The singer will be forced into two weeks of “complete vocal rest” following the operation, followed by vocal rehabilitation a few weeks later to retrain herself to talk and sing.

While she won’t be able to sing, Dasha shared that she’ll still appear at this year’s CMA Awards in November. In addition to needing to undergo surgery, Dasha is currently on a “time crunch” to complete her forthcoming third album.

She concluded the interview by looking ahead to her post-surgery self. “The surgery is gonna allow me to be at the top of my game,” she said.

“It allows me the reset that I need to be able to tour and have the stamina and have the voice I need to carry the whole year out with the album and promote it. I owe that to my fans and owe it to myself to give myself a full shot at doing the damn thing.”

Dasha’s latest single, 82 Chevy, arrived last week and follows her track, Mad About It. Her breakout hit, Austin (Boots Stopped Workin’), is certified seven-times Platinum in Australia and was one of the most-streamed country songs of 2024.

With Austin, Dasha picked up the Female Song of the Year award at the People’s Choice Country Awards and made it to Spotify’s Billions Club just two years after its release. She’s also known for singles like Not At This Party, Like It Like That, and Even Cowboys Cry.
