Canadian singer-songwriter Dan Davidson, who’s been independent throughout his entire career, has signed with ABC Music for Australia, calling the land down under his “country music home away from home”.
Davidson will celebrate the signing by unveiling a new version of his single, Won’t Forget, which will feature Canadian star Tim Hicks and Australian Golden Guitar winner Max Jackson, on 22 March.
The track is the first single from the deluxe version of his last album, Nineteen Eighty Something – Australian Special Edition. The album will be released digitally on Friday, 12 April.
If you missed Nineteen Eighty Something last year, it’s an album that honours the artists Davidson grew up listening to, such as Don Henley and Bruce Springsteen, but with a country spin on sounds that were very much rock-based in the ‘80s.
Here’s what Davidson had to say about releasing Nineteen Eighty Something – Australian Special Edition,
This record was inspired by the songs I heard on the radio growing up, the songs that transcended genre and era. I wanted to try and bottle the feeling I got from Bryan Adams, Don Henley, and Bruce Springsteen - and make it country.
I’m so happy how this record came together - it’s filled with bright, nostalgia-inducing country music that makes you remember how it feels to be 17, borrowing your parents’ car, rolling down the windows down and turning the music up.
The album arrives ahead of Davidson’s return to Australia, where he’ll perform at The Beer Shed in Sydney and co-headline Dubbo’s Stock Route Music Festival next month.

On signing with ABC Music, Davidson said, “I am so very excited to be working with the ABC Music team!
“Australia has become my country music home away from home over these last few years; having a team there to help support me just solidifies my commitment to getting in front of Aussie country music fans as much as I possibly can. Jenny, Natalie and the team are incredible at what they do; this is just the start of a great ride together!”
ABC Country Label Manager Jenny Peachey added, “We are excited to welcome Dan to the ABC roster. Natalie Waller [Head of ABC Music] and I have watched his increasing impact on our charts and festivals and his willingness to work with local talent over the last few years.”
