Vale Olivia Newton-John (1948-2022)
Dame Olivia Newton-John AC DBE has died at the age of 73 following a 30-year long battle with breast cancer. The British-born Australian singer-songwriter, actress, entrepreneur, and activist was perhaps best known for starring in such films as Grease (1978), Xanadu (1980) and A Few Best Men (2011) and hits like I Honestly Love You and Physical.
Newton-John’s early music was rooted in country pop. She was named the CMA ‘Female Vocalist of the Year’ in 1974, defeating the likes of Loretta Lynn, Dolly Parton, Tanya Tucker, and Anne Murray. She also took home the GRAMMY for ‘Best Female Country Vocal Performance’ in 1973 and collaborated with country superstars Keith Urban and Vince Gill.
With global sales of more than 100 million records and four GRAMMY wins to her name, Newton-John was one of the best-selling music artists from the second half of the 20th century.
As the world mourns, there’s no doubt that Newton-John touched the lives and hearts of so many, including those in country music. Here are some of their tributes.
