Capella Country Music Festival Drops Line-up, Honours Chad Morgan

Queensland-based music festival Capella has announced its 2025 line-up, which will pay tribute to Australian country music icon Chad Morgan.

Morgan passed away on New Year’s Day, 2025, at the age of 91. Before his passing, Morgan was battling ill health after an almost unmatched career of live performing.

Morgan's career lasted over 70 years. It began in 1952 when he was discovered through the radio talent quest Australia’s Amateur Hour. The title of the song he entered with, The Sheik Of Scrubby Creek, became his affectionate nickname. Morgan’s farewell show was held at Twin Towns in April 2024.

In addition to his many achievements, Morgan was the “soul” of the Capella Country Music Festival, as well as a co-founder, mentor, and constant source of support and guidance in the industry.

It’s fitting that Capella will pay tribute to such an icon.

This year’s festival will be held from Tuesday, 6 May, to Sunday, 11 May, at the Capella Covered Arena in Capella, Queensland.

Other acts on the line-up include Lindsay Waddington, Danella Waters, Hillbilly Goats, Peter Simpson OAM, Amy Ryan, Chad Morgan Jnr, and many more. According to the festival’s social media, a special guest will be announced soon:

“Hi Ho country music fans around Australia, this is a list of fantastic artists that will be performing in Capella May 2025,” organisers wrote on Facebook on Thursday (20 February). “We have a special guest appearing also; we will post further information soon.”

In addition to music, this year’s festival features the Talent Search and Walk-Up Stage Contest, catering, bush cooking, a bush poets breakfast, trade stalls, and more.
