Angus Gill Gives Aussie Classics A Bluegrass Twist On New Album Postcards

Angus Gill puts a fresh bluegrass spin on iconic Aussie tracks with Postcards. It’s a nostalgic yet totally fresh take on the songs we grew up with.

Angus Gill has officially dropped Postcards his sixth studio album and possibly his most ambitious project yet, reimagining iconic Australian pop and rock songs through a vibrant bluegrass lens.

The Golden Guitar winning artist, producer and songwriter recorded the album in Nashville alongside Grammy winning musicians, blending homegrown nostalgia with Americana charm. 

“These songs are like postcards. I wanted to hold them up to the light and see what new colours came through, when re-imagined with some of my favourite bluegrass players,” says Gill.

One of the album’s standout tracks, a spirited take on Mondo Rock’s Come Said The Boy, has already earned praise from the original hitmakers themselves. “It’s so refreshing to hear a new take on this song,” said Ross Wilson. “It really captures the moodiness and the joy. Surf and Turf,” added songwriter Eric McCusker.

Gill has brought in a killer lineup of special guests for the project, including Mark Callaghan of Gang Gajang, soul icon Deni Hines, country-pop standout Melanie Dyer, Country Music and Rock & Roll Hall of Famer James Burton on dobro, and Grammy winning singer Ronnie Bowman. Together, they’ve reworked tracks made famous by the likes of Split Enz, Gotye, Thelma Plum, Meg Washington, and more.

The album’s first single, The Sounds of Then (feat. Mark Callaghan), has already made an impact, hitting #1 on the AMRAP Regional Chart, hinting that fans are more than ready for these classic tracks to get a bluegrass revival.

With 18 #1 singles Gill continues to blur the lines between Australian storytelling and Americana soul, and Postcards is proof of just how far that vision can go.

The album will be launched live this Sunday at 7pm at Petersham Bowling Club.
