After more than a decade spent as one of the country’s most raucous purveyors of pub rock and punk, Amyl And The Sniffers are going country for their next project, it seems.
This week saw the band take to social media to share a plainly worded poster in which they announce "a film is coming to you soon about Amyl playing country covers of their own songs".
Very little other information is provided alongside the poster, including when it will be released, where it was recorded, what it entails, or anything of that kind.
The poster does, however, include some credits, noting it was directed by John Angus Stewart, with Chris Chang and Jason Baum on production duties, and photography handled by Christopher Blauvelt.
Given that all except Stewart are largely known for their work in the US, there’s a chance the film may have been recorded during the band’s recent tour dates in North America.
While a country shift might sound like an interesting route for Amyl And The Sniffers to take, fans have previously received a taste of what this may sound like.
In 2021, Swedish outfit Viagra Boys released their Welfare Jazz album, which closes with a cover of John Prine's In Spite Of Ourselves. Originally released by Prine on his 1999 record of the same name, it was issued as a duet alongside Iris DeMent, with Amyl And The Sniffers’ Amy Taylor taking on the role of guest vocalist for the nascent rendition.

Amyl And The Sniffers last month rapped a run of tour dates throughout the US, with more North American shows set to take place throughout October, and a run of European gigs to launch next week.
Notably, bassist Gus Romer has been, and will be, absent from these dates, having revealed in May he was “taking some time off the road this year”.
“I’m alright and nothing to worry about,” he told fans. “Lakota [Vella] from Public Figures is stepping in to help us out on the tours this year, so make her feel welcome. I’ll see you all in 2027. Gus.”
