English-Australian songwriter and country music icon Allan Caswell has teamed up with fellow Australian country musician Lindsay Waddington to write an ode to their wives as a Christmas present on the newly-released Honey All I Need Is You.
Motivated by their shared love for Tex-Mex style country music, the song is a woozy, heartfelt lullaby that sees these two artists muse soulfully over their respected partners. Calling on the musicianship of Brendan Radford, Claire O’Meara, Gus Fenwick, Doug Gallacher, Lawrie Minson, Caswell and Waddington’s words lay gently on a bed of dreamy guitar melodies and soothing accordion. The song will officially go radio-live on New Year’s Eve, aligning with Caswell and his wife’s 15th wedding anniversary on New Year’s Day.
Speaking on how the collaboration came together, Caswell wrote in a press release: “I was lucky enough to see Freddy Fender, Los Lobos and The Mavericks play live and loved the energy of what they were playing. As with a lot of our songs, Waddo already had a cool Tex Mex groove happening when I arrived at the studio. We decided to write a totally self-indulgent song as a Christmas present for our wives Marian and Reegan. It was a fun song to write…happy songs are always the hardest to write but we filled it up by saying nice things and telling the truth.”
Coming off his CMAA Achiever Awards Songwriter of the Year win, elevation to the Australasian Country Music Roll of Renown in Tamworth and yet another Golden Guitar nomination for his song He Loves His Radio, Caswell has been on a steady incline throughout the year. With over 50 years of experience as a prolific country music singer and songwriter, Caswell has been able to flex his versatile approach to classic country, as well as showcase his strong songwriting partnership with Waddington throughout the years.
The singer will take the song on the road shortly after the new year, embarking on his The Really Long Goodbye Tour in January 2025, first stopping at Tamworth Services Club on Sunday January 26. To ease his fan’s worries over retirement, the artist said in a press release: “I am not retiring … I am still writing way too many songs and making too many records … and besides I can’t retire … my golf game is terrible.”
