Australia is home to a brand-new label for country music artists, Nybor Records, and the first acts signed to the label are Darlinghurst and Linc Phelps.
Nybor Records, led by Red Rebel Music’s Karen Waters, will welcome artists making country, Americana and other singer-songwriters. According to a press release, the label’s name represents “stability, trust, loyalty, love and family”.
The first release on Nybor Records is Darlinghurst’s new song, Gypsy Girl, which is set to land on Friday, 31 May, with Linc Phelps up next on Friday, 14 June, with new single Hundred Percent.
Earlier this year, Darlinghurst released their first song as a duo, Unapologetic, after past members Jason Resch and Matt Darvidis left the band in December.
Gypsy Girl has been described as a meeting between The Chicks and folk-rock heroes such as Fleetwood Mac, The Mamas & The Papas and Joni Mitchell, with production from Damian Cafarella (The Pleasures, Henry Wagons, Lachlan Bryan & The Wildes). Meanwhile, Hundred Percent is the second single from Phelps’ upcoming album, Faith And Sweat, a feel-good anthem produced by Gavin Carfoot (James Johnston, Loren Ryan).

“It is with much delight that we embark on our next musical adventure joining Nybor Records,” Darlinghurst’s Cassie Leopold commented in a press release. “The meaning behind the name and those attached to the label align with everything Pagan [Newman] and I represent as people as well as artists.
“The industry can be brutal, leaving you with more questions than answers at times, so trust is paramount when you put your career in the hands of others. Nybor Records is a perfect match, and we are confident that their hands will lift us up, not push us down.”
Phelps added, “I began this year in the hopes of growing my team, so I am beyond thrilled to have joined the Nybor Records family. Kaz has forged a reputation based on honesty, hard work and her passion for the artists she represents. Her authenticity, along with her years of industry knowledge and experience, makes this step feel really comfortable and so right.”
Since its establishment in 2005, Red Rebel Music has become home to a multitude of Australian artists, including INXS, The McClymonts, Tania Kernaghan, Melody Moko, James Blundell, Lee Kernaghan, Catherine Britt and many more.
