Mackay’s own Bella Mackenzie has signed a deal with Island Records Australia, a subsidiary of Universal Music Group.

The singer, who stole the heart of Australia on The Voice last year, made the announcement on social media yesterday (15 May), dedicating the news to her devoted fans.

“Thanks to YOUR endless support and love for my music & story over the years ... I am super excited to announce my next chapter… my signing with Island Records Australia at Universal Music Australia,” Mackenzie wrote alongside a commanding new press photo.

“We have already been working extremely hard behind the scenes to send some new music your way as soon as possible, so stay tuned!

“Thank you so much to the Island & the UMA team for believing in me, my music and my vision. I am so grateful. I can't wait for you to hear what we've been working on…”

At Island, Mackenzie joins an impressive roster of Australian artists, including fellow country acts Brooke McClymont & Adam Eckersley, Shane Nicholson, The McClymonts and Tori Forsyth, as well as artists from other genres: Tame Impala, Vera Blue, A.B. Original, Peach PRC, Kobie Dee, Matt Corby, Charlie Collins, and more.

On last year’s season of The Voice Australia, Bella Mackenzie reached the semi-final and dedicated her final performance on national television to her grandfather, Feno.

Reflecting on her journey in the competition, Mackenzie wrote on Instagram, “My journey on The Voice Australia has come to an end, but my music journey has just begun…

“Thank you so much [to coach and singer] Guy Sebastian for guiding me through this process and helping me not only grow as an artist but also as a young adult in this industry. I couldn’t be more grateful.”

Mackenzie found her place on the 2023 season of The Voice Australia by auditioning with her rendition of Taylor Swift’s Anti-Hero. Her audition caught the attention of all four judges on the show – Sebastian, Rita Ora, Jessica Mauboy and Jason Derulo – and she chose Sebastian as her coach.

She was the sole country singer to make it to the Semi-Final after Cohuna-based singer Dan Daniels and icons of the genre, The Bushwackers, were eliminated earlier in the season.

Mackenzie has made moves since her stint on The Voice, performing at Country Fest QLD earlier this year.
