Al Speers plays the Wesley Anne to celebrate the release of I'll Learn to Leave You (ILTLY), the final installment of their three-part series. Following Cowboy and Changes, ILTLY is a celebration of queer joy against the backdrop of political unrest. Joined by Esther Henderson and Edgar Hurley, the night will explore folk in its many forms, from country-folk, to folk pop, to alternative.
ILTLY is released alongside the third film directed and co-written with Naarm-based cinematographer Claire Giuffre. The films star folk musician Edgar Hurley and contribute to queering the landscape of Speers' lyric worldbuilding with explorations of gender as drag, queer ONS, and taking up space against the backdrop of political and personal heartbreak.
Edgar Hurley will be playing songs of their recent album, 'Sissy Fairy Faggot Folk Singer', amongst country ballads from the 50s and 60s. Their most recent release, 'There Are Many Ways To Say I Love You', was commissioned by UK artist Tom Rosenthal for his podcast 'Strangers on a Bench'.
Esther Henderson finds inspiration in affairs of the heart. She writes moody, sincere, soul-searching pop music.
