Australian contemporary country artist Sammi Palinkas is back with her empowering new single, Let Your Hair Down. This country banger channels the rock and roll energy of Bruce Springsteen and the country-pop stylings of Shania Twain.
Today, Countrytown exclusively premieres the music video.
Filmed in Sydney, Palinkas’ new video is all about fun and celebrating friendships. She and Melbourne-based actress Susie Kazda enjoy a fun day before a thrilling girl’s night out that culminates in shots and karaoke.
In the music video filmed around the Sydney CBD, on the light rail and at the Nashville-inspired cocktail bar, Jolene’s Sydney, director Duncan Toombs (of The Filmery) captures the pure energy and love of female friendships and the excitement of that night when we do let our hair down.

Revealing that she’s a “big fan” of conversational lyrics and pulling from real-life instances, such as people saying to her, “You work so hard and put a lot of pressure on yourself, don’t forget to let your hair down once in a while”, she knew the timing for the song was right.
“We’ve all had a rough few years between the pandemic and the state of the economy, coupled with the expected trials, tribulations, and pressures of life,” she continued. “It is so easy to get tied up in it all and lose sight of the bigger picture, and sometimes we need that reminder about the importance of balance between work and play.
“Musically, we wanted to capture the storytelling typical of the Country genre, with the influence of contemporary country (think Shania Twain) and a bit of rock edge (think Bruce Springsteen).”
Palinkas is hard at work on her debut album with acclaimed producer Rod McCormack (Paul Kelly, The Wolfe Brothers, Lee Kernaghan). In October, Countrytown shared the video premiere for Palinkas’ track Don’t Blink. You can find that here.
