Beth Lucas is leaning all the way into vulnerability with her latest release What I Deserved, and today the track gets an equally raw visual treatment.

The country riser has officially unveiled the video for the deeply personal single, giving fans a closer look at one of her most honest songs to date.

Written nearly two decades after the experience that inspired it, What I Deserved dives into the messy, complicated reality of first love, the heartbreak and the self-reflection that comes with it. It’s not about pointing fingers, but about owning mistakes on both sides and unpacking the emotional aftermath of a formative relationship.

Though the bones of the track were written earlier, Lucas revisited and refined it in the studio with producer James North, sharpening the emotional core while keeping the storytelling front and centre.

“This is easily one of the most vulnerable songs I’ve ever written and I know it’s finally the right time to share this part of my story. Like a lot of my songs, the lyrics eventually found their way out in the middle of the night, and when I sat down the next day, the song basically wrote itself. It feels good to finally release it”.

Lucas has been steadily building momentum across the Australian country scene, known for blending confessional songwriting with an alt-edge that nods to her emo roots. With accolades like the Tamworth Songwriters Association awards and a growing list of festival appearances, she’s carving out a space as one of the country’s new compelling emerging voices.
