2022 Toyota Star Maker grand finalist, Jade Gibson has a new take on your average self-empowerment song with her latest single, Unforgivingly Me.
Co-written by Jade with MSquared’s Michael Paynter and Michael Delorenzis (who also produced the track), as well as Katrina Burgoyne and Nashville's Mary Kutter, Unforgivingly Me, is a vibrant, catchy, sing-along song, with Jade opening up about all the elements of her personality that she has been put down for in the past and owning them. In her openness, she invites the listener to never say sorry for who they are, be it a little too loud, proud or even too tall for the room.
“Unforgivingly Me is a reminder to always be yourself, but in song form,” Jade says. “Growing up, I was always reminded (sometimes not so nicely) how loud, chatty and 'too tall for the room' I was. This song is all about embarrassing who you are, no matter how bold!”
The accompanying music video premieres today exclusively on Countrytown.
Jade adds, “I filmed the clip with my good friend Jake Davey of Jake Davey Studios. It's meant to be simple and fun. There's no bells and whistles, just me singing to the camera being myself. Goofing around, singing and acting out the lyrics from the song like 'One minute I laugh then I cry'.”

Born and raised in Wangaratta, Victoria, Jade’s dream of being a country-pop artist was helped by her love of Keith Urban, The Chicks and Fleetwood Mac from a young age. She began playing cover shows at 14 years old and now has over 500 shows under her belt – including playing to BnS Ball crowds alongside some of Australia’s most popular country music acts such as The Wolfe Brothers, Travis Collins, and Christie Lamb.
In 2018, she spent a whole year in Nashville studying, while developing her skills in performing, song writing and recording. The following year, she released her debut single The Great Unknown in 2019 from her five track EP of the same name, which explored stories of being young, love, heartbreak and chasing dreams. The track debuted at #1 on the Australian iTunes country charts upon release.
Singles Start Again (2019), ‘Til We Fly (2020), 23 Dryburgh Street (2020), Wildfires (2021) and Soundtracks (2021) followed. She was also announced as one of the finalists in the ‘open category’ in the 2021 Gympie Music Muster NAB Talent Search, which is responsible for helping launch the careers of Mark O’Shea from the duo O’Shea, sisters Brooke and Sam McClymont from The McClymonts, Drew McAlister, Ruby Gilbert and Brooke Schubert.
Unforgivingly Me follows her previous single Country Mile (co-written with MSquared). It reached over 400,000 streams in late 2022, charted on the Countrytown Hot 50 Country Airplay Chart and was chosen as the official song for the social media promo for the 2023 Tamworth Country Music Festival.
