Countrytown are elated to bring you the lyric video for One Night Only by Melbourne-based singer-songwriter, Al Gammie in this exclusive premiere. It’s our Song of the Day!

Produced, engineered and mixed by Chris Themelco with Al Gammie at Monolith Studios, One Night Only is taken from Al’s debut solo album, Escape To Eden (released late last year) and features guest vocalist Sofie Lynn – one half of US pop-country duo, Honey County.

Al says, “[Sofie] absolutely knocked this one out of the park, giving it the old-time Dolly/Kenny type of vibe I had in mind. I really wanted that old school barn dance sound, lots of stomps and hand claps. It's a fun song, leaving the listener with a little bittersweet taste on their tongues.”

He adds, “This song is pure escapism - what if - for one night only - you could take each other by the hand, run into the horizon, dream and love with fierce passion and reckless abandon - together. No care for tomorrow. It's all about the present moment. Even if one night only is all it ever amounts to, before we return to the bleak, sobering, real world - it was all worth it for that one joyous, connected experience - wild and free.”

Al’s distinct, emotive, and raw voice is product of his many years fronting mostly heavy rock bands. Making himself heard over Marshall amps set to 11 and thunderous drums developed a natural power and robustness in his voice - his trademark – and a point of difference as he now enters the Americana/folk/roots/country arena.

Adversity introduces a man to himself, and it can also reintroduce him to earlier iterations. Through a difficult time in his personal life, during the height of the pandemic, Al reconnected with his passion for music. Through many muses, mentors and inspiration, he was compelled to draw out everything he was feeling, telling universal stories through his songs with an organic honesty he had never explored. Tapping influences from childhood such as Roy Orbison, Fleetwood Mac and Bruce Springsteen to name just a few, he rarely put the pen or guitar down in 2020. Al worked with collaborators around the world, exchanging audio files from Nashville to London to Los Angeles and beyond. Before he knew it, he had a complete album recorded.

Listen to the song below and give his album a spin!
