Bonnie Kellett has dropped the sixth single, Humble Hero, from her forthcoming debut album, Hidden Spirit. Produced by ARIA award winning producer, Govinda Doyle, the vocals were recorded in one take to stay authentic to the emotions Bonnie felt in the moment.
Humble Hero is a beautiful true story-telling ballad written by Bonnie, inspired by her late-father finding the violin that inspired her to play, from a small girl. It was over 100 years old, broken on the bottom and had only one string. The song tells the story of Bonnie’s closeness to her parents, her love of the violin (and her dad), and her upbringing surrounded by country music.
“I still have the fiddle and I play it throughout the song. It’s a very raw sounding violin, it has a very country sound and that’s what adds to the beauty of it. The song also features my late fathers 1978 Gibson Banjo, which feels like a warm hug from my Dad,” says Bonnie.
“We lost Dad in 2010 to cancer and he never heard this song… but I feel like he’s always with me and he’s a big part of my inspiration with country music. I feel so incredibly blessed to have had an upbringing where I was surrounded by country music.”
The accompanying music video, which premieres today exclusively on Countrytown, was filmed by Jake Davey Studios in and around Whatever at Willunga, Port Willunga Beach and Karrawatta Vineyards South Australia. It stars Rohan Watts and Olivia Regione.
