'High School Reunion' drops this Thursday, June 30!

More Kiara Rodrigues More Kiara Rodrigues

The thought of seeing people we went to school with a decade ago can strike fear into our hearts – Kiara Rodrigues takes a tongue-in-cheek approach to this in her new single, High School Reunion. And CT has your first listen and look at the accompanying music video (before its official release this Thursday, June 30) in this exclusive premiere!

A moment of seriously questioning her life’s achievements inspired the singer-songwriter to turn it into a light-hearted look at reunions.

“After the pandemic hit, I felt like I hadn’t achieved as much as I’d wanted to, especially with my music,” Kiara said. “I had this sudden realisation that next year would be 10 years since I finished high school and thought to myself, 'If I went to my reunion now, what would I have to show for it?'”

This is a song and a story that most listeners will relate to, regardless of what they have or haven’t done since high school.

“It’s about us all being at different life stages: some of us are still partying, some are having children, and some are in between and have no idea what we’re doing,” said Kiara.

Recorded and produced by Liam Kennedy-Clark at Neat Freq Productions, the track features a group of stellar musicians who form a fresh sound while paying homage to Opry traditions.

She adds, “Writing this song really lifted me out of that negative self-doubting period and has increased my passion for making music.”

Jeremy Minnett from Eyes + Ears Creative brings the song to life, in a glamorous yet equally hilarious film clip where Kiara’s “classmates” are represented by mannequins.

“I want listeners to hear the song and think back to their own memories of how high school reunions can be. But I also want to take them back to that coming-of-age era, where it feels like the world is at your feet. What really matters to me with this track is getting authentic responses and reactions from listeners as they relate this song to their own experiences.”

High School Reunion follows her previous single I Don’t Love You Anymore, which she played on television when Young Talent Time returned. Kiara also released several charting singles from her EP I’m Gonna Be Fine and album Playing With Fire. She also released Reminiscing, which features 10 country classics including Boot-Scooting Boogie, Folsom Prison Blues and more.

As well as building her music career, Kiara, who is currently based in Sydney, has also graduated from university and works as a Speech Pathologist. Born to immigrant parents of Indian heritage, she fell in love with country music when she moved to North Queensland at nine years old and has since emerged as one of the industry's rising stars.

Her career in country music, spanning 16 years, has seen her achieve the title of Triple World Champion (Country, Gospel, Rock) at the ‘World Championships of Performing Arts’ in Hollywood, Junior Aristocrat ‘Country Entertainer of the Year’ and the 2013 ‘Voice of Urban’. In 2019, she was recognised as a 5 X semi-finalist in the Tamworth Songwriters Association awards, her song Mr Vanity, earning her Comedy/Novelty ‘Song Of The Year’.

Additional career highlights include singing at the world famous ‘Tootsies’ in Nashville, singing the National Anthem at Broncos vs Cowboys NRL games, and graduating from the CMAA Senior Academy of Country Music. Kiara has performed with the likes of Beccy Cole, Melinda Schneider, Carter & Carter, Bill Chambers and Pete Denahy.
