Girlfriend by Chloe Styler – Premiere

With her soul-soothing brand of country pop that warms the heart and delights the senses, Gold Coast singer-songwriter Chloe Styler is delivering a taste of feel-good energy in her latest single, Girlfriend. And Countrytown has your first listen at the track ahead of its official release tomorrow in this exclusive premiere!

Written by Chloe with Sarah Buckley from The Buckleys, Girlfriend is an ode to the struggles of modern dating as Chloe realises the dating scene isn’t for her, as she elaborates:

“Dating in 2020 was already hard enough before adding in the fact that the guys I found myself talking to were either emotionally unavailable, great at ghosting, or prone to playing mind games. I quickly realised I'm more of a 'Girlfriend', and that I didn't want to waste my time with guys who only wanted a casual fling. The catch is though; you have to date to become a girlfriend!”

Chloe adds, "I wrote Girlfriend with my friend Sarah Buckley via zoom almost two years ago! At the time, I was going through the motions of being a newly single 20-something and although dating can be fun and exciting, I found it to be nothing short of a timewaster. After some failed attempts at a first date, I had the hook - ‘call me when you want a Girlfriend’ - swirling around in my head. It seemed as though the people I was dating only wanted one thing; and that wasn’t a Girlfriend... 

I knew I wanted this to be a really fun song, so I jumped on zoom with Sarah and a few hours later we had the song! The song was produced by Andy Mak. After hearing the demo, he knew we had to record it, so I travelled down to The Grove studios in between lockdowns, and he brought my 80s pop dreams to life. I’ve shown a few of my friends the song and they seemed to instantly relate to it! They all said the same thing: they're tired of wasting their time on someone who doesn’t know what they want. I hope this song brings some feel-good energy to whatever situation you find yourself in!"

Known for her authentic approach to country pop that gently melds indie and folk elements through intense storytelling, Chloe has been wrapping audiences in her wholesome indie embrace since her debut. In that time, she has delivered multiple alluring singles that have earned her a nomination at last year's Gold Coast Music Awards plus finalist status in the Vanda & Young Global Songwriting Competition.

Girlfriend follows her singles Loving You and Where We Stand, which landed on the Countrytown Hot 50 Country Airplay Chart. She also earned a nomination at last year's Gold Coast Music Awards and reached finalist status in the Vanda & Young Global Songwriting Competition for Consider Me Gone.

Chloe has also supported Lee Kernaghan, Troy Cassar-Daley and Fanny Lumsden and was confirmed to play at CMA Fest in Nashville in 2020 before being cancelled due to covid.
