You may recognise sister duo, Ella & Sienna from The Voice Australia, where they made it into Rita Ora’s final 6 earlier this year.

Hailing from the Adelaide Hills, Ella, 19, and Sienna, 15, are multi-instrumentalists, whose live performances mainly feature Ella on vocals/guitar, and Sienna on vocals/bass. Inspired by artists like Missy Higgins, Pink and Taylor Swift, their original music brings a unique blend of modern country, folk and acoustic pop.

Their accolades over the past two years include Finalist in the Folk Alliance Australia 2021 Youth Folk Artist of the Year, Live Performance Category Winners in the Songwriters Composers and Lyricists Association 2021 Festival of Original Music, Winners of the AGSA Battle of the Bands 2020, 2nd place in both the Battle of the Young Stars and Best of the Buskers competitions at the Tamworth CMF and Semi-Finalist in the International Songwriting Competition 2020.

The award-winning duo also placed in the top 3 of the Gympie Muster Talent Search in 2019, and were announced as finalists in Groundwater’s KIX-Start competition, alongside included Emily Hatton, Bo’Ness, Gareth Leach, Mikayla J, Eddie Rawk, Bonnie Kellett, Sara Berki, Piper Butcher and winner, Bella Mackenzie in 2021.

Their newly released single, Saved, was produced by Matt Fell, who was behind their previous single Next To Mine, which peaked at #32 on the Countrytown Hot 50 Country Airplay Chart. The song’s vulnerable words balance perfectly atop an upbeat, reverb-clad musical bed and jangly, chorused guitars lead the charge, leaving ample space for the sisters’ vocal harmonies to soar.

1. Ain’t No Little Girl by Kasey Chambers

One of the most powerful songs I’ve ever heard, Kasey ChambersAin’t No Little Girl is an anthem for self-belief. The passion and strength in her voice is unmatched, while her songwriting and emotional delivery is incredibly inspiring. This song gave us the courage to stand up for ourselves when we were undermined as serious musicians because of our youth. Authentic, captivating, and empowering!

2. Peachy by Missy Higgins

This track is a family favourite and will always hold a special place in my heart. Released as a single from Missy’s second album On a Clear Night in 2007, Peachy is so catchy, you’ll be singing it for days. The grit in her vocals beautifully compliments the dynamic depth in her storytelling. I strive to be able to turn attitude, anger, and pain into something as inspiring as Peachy.

3. The Lottery by Ashleigh Dallas

This song is such a feel-good country track, perfect for road trips. We had the pleasure of meeting Ashleigh Dallas and were mentored by her as part of the CMAA Junior Academy in 2021. This song perfectly encapsulates Ashleigh’s infectious, generous, and uplifting spirit. The beautiful lyrical message ponders on the concept of living life without worry and stress. Appreciating the small things and living for the good times!

1. Oops I Love You by The Buckleys

The Buckleys display their advanced storytelling and fun vibes in this upbeat tune. Their unique blend of pop and country accompanies influence from a range of artists, as is evident across their discography. As a sibling band their vocal blend and chemistry is impeccable. Followed by a catchy melody and flawless instrumentation, the track is one of my favourites and so inspiring to us as young crossover artists.

2. Tim McGraw by Taylor Swift

Tim McGraw is Taylor Swift’s debut track and will always be one of my favourites. With vivid song writing way beyond her years and instrumentation that accompanies the story perfectly, this track captures the essence of country music and is a massive inspiration to me as a songwriter. The simple, honest music displays her talent effortlessly and although her first release, it remains some of her best work.

3. Friends Don’t by Maddie & Tae

Maddie & Tae show off their explosive vocals and skilled song writing in this passionate track. As a listener, the lyricism and the strong emotions behind the song can be felt entirely without being able to relate to the situation. This is so unique and something I strive to achieve in my own compositions. The intimacy between the friends is distinct which as a duo is essential and inspiring.
