Country Drop: Countrytown's Best New Country Music - 16 October

Each week, the team at Countrytown finds the best new country songs to add to our weekly playlist, The Country Drop. Here's our picks released this week, October 16, 2026.

So a little birdy tells me there might be a big tune coming later today, so no doubt that one will probably be streaming for your weekend, but while we wait, today’s Friday tunes are as strong a bunch as we’ve seen in a while. They might not be as heavy-hitting names as some weeks, but we can guarantee these ones are going to hit the spot!

Michael Honan - Lonely Like This

Michael’s been building towards this EP all year with some absolute cracking tunes and today it lands. Reasons is a five-tracker which is all killer, no filler. The fact that this new tune closes out the EP and is still enough to open our list today is everything you need to know. Hailing from Victoria, this EP came out of a writing trip to Nashville last year and is easily one of the strongest sets of the year in Australian country.

Caylee Hammack & Trisha Yearwood - Coldest Shoulder

Hailing from small-town Georgia, Caylee Hammack is a voice that’s hard to forget once you’ve heard it, and when you pair her with a legend like Trisha Yearwood, this one is hard to ignore. The two voices work beautifully together—they blend while keeping their distinctive tones, creating an A+ duet that’s easily one of this week’s best tunes.

Riley Pearce - The Frame

In the week that Zach Bryan announced his Australian stadium tour, Western Australia’s Riley Pearce is putting a strong bid forward if they’re looking for a support. This dark and breezy folk-country tune throws off the genre shackles and just delivers.

Briana Dinsdale - Little Fire

Recently signed to MNRK, this is Briana’s first drop as a signed artist. An accomplished country-pop tune produced by Aussie Nashville stalwart Michael Flanders, this one’s set to launch her on a global stage.

Abby Anderson - Who Gets To Be Happy

One of Spotify’s Fresh Finds for 2026, this song is a great indicator of why they’ve thrown their lot in with Abby. A gorgeous and stripped-back ballad, this showcases her incredible voice perfectly. Accomplished and contemporary, we can’t wait to hear what comes next.

Stephen Wilson Jr - yellow brick home

It’s always hard to pigeonhole Stephen Wilson Jr. Are you listening to a country artist? A folk artist? An Americana artist? A rock artist? A post-grunge artist? The answer, of course, is yes to all of them. He actually dropped two new tracks today and the other one, Exorcisms on the Weekend, is also worth a listen, but for now, wrap your ears around yellow brick home. It’s Soundgarden if Chris Cornell was chewing on some straw.

TheWesternGuide feat. Kaylee Bell - Truth I Keep

Known better to his family as Aaron Pulemagafa, TheWesternGuide is a Samoan-Kiwi artist who opened for Kaylee on her 2025 Cowboy Up tour. Now things have come full circle and Bell has lent her distinctive vocal to this accomplished new song that’s sure to put this artist on the radar. Of the song, TheWesternGuide said: “I think everyone has things in their past that they’re not necessarily proud of. You start wondering, if I told this person, what would they think of me? That was the feeling I wanted to capture with ‘Truth I Keep’.” This song is definitely something he should be proud of.

Robbie Mortimer - Don’t Wanna Wake Up

Hailing from Orange, Robbie Mortimer has been on the brink of breaking through. There’s hardly a festival stage in Australia he hasn’t graced, and it was barely six months ago he dropped his last EP. With a work ethic like this and songs continuing to flow that are this good, he’s bound to keep rising.

The Reklaws - Ain’t Seen Nothing Yet

There was a little bit of me hoping when I hit play that it was a Bachman-Turner Overdrive cover. It’s not, but it’s still a banger. It’s a head-nodding, foot-tapping banger with an electronic beat weaving effortlessly through a massively catchy tune. The only downside? It only goes for 1:46!

Greyson Turner - Ten and Two

One of the few weeks we don’t have any drinking songs on the list, so we figured we’d better give a nod to a driving song instead. Greyson Turner is an Austin singer-songwriter who’s brand new on our radar. His first album hit in 2025 (it’s also worth a listen) and he’s been looking for that breakthrough he needs. As soon as the chorus of this one kicks in, you realise that this one has the potential to get the recognition he so deserves.
