It’s album release day for Brooke McClymont and Adam Eckersley and Carly Pearce and there’s some great mixes of genre in today’s list, so dive in and get your earholes around these great tunes.
Riley Green - That’s Just Me
The title track off his forthcoming album, this one’s a glorious mid-tempo ballad. The other side of the emotional coin from his delicious Think As You Drunk, this one’s a great indicator of the spread we can look forward to when the album drops on September 18.
Maoli - I Got A Beer For That
Hawaiian multi-genre superstar Maoli has befuddled many in the country scene, mixing reggae, soul and a bunch of other influences into a gorgeous mix of awesome. On this one, he’s kept everything that’s gained him his fanbase in the first place, but more tightly woven the country tropes to create a banger that’s likely to see him creep ever closer to proving to Nashville that country music has a new home in the Pacific Ocean. Why aren’t there more horns in country songs?
Katrina Burgoyne - I Want A Boy Like You, Cowboy
Aussie Katrina Burgoyne now calls Nashville home and has hit it out of the park with this great new tune. It’s been five years since her last record and was a decade between that one and the first, so when you’re treated to a Burgoyne record it’s worth taking a listen. With her last single Back Up having a TikTok moment and hitting nearly half a million streams, this one proves Katrina is worth far more than just a viral moment.
Ryan and Rory - Beer Wants Me
We’ve seen these guys live and they’re the real deal. If Maoli wasn’t enough beer, have another chug on this one. Young, hungry and a serious contender for the next big Nashville breakthrough, these guys have all the elements and are putting them together with style.
Riley Ziskey - Bore Water Soul
Riley Ziskey is an emerging Australian country music singer, songwriter, and auto electrician from Longreach, Queensland. He grew up on outback cattle stations, which gave him a deep love for traditional '90s country music. After spending time working in Western Australian mines, he returned to his true passion for performing, moving to Brisbane and playing festivals like Tamworth Country Music Festival and Ridin’ Hearts. This is his first single (outside of a collab earlier this year) and seriously…. The other Riley better watch his back. This is seriously world-class.
Carly Pearce - Same Circus
It’s album day for Carly and this tune from the record is an absolute joy. One of the downsides of current release schedules is that often all the best tunes are in the world before you get to hear it all in context, but with songs this good, it’s a reminder of why great artists are great artists.
Ian Noe - Leeann
I’ve been kicking myself I missed the opportunity to pop Ian’s last tune The Heidelberg Fisherman’s Ball into the drop a few weeks ago, so I’m not missing the opportunity for this next drop from his Canyon Falls Trailer Band record. The album’s still a month away, but you pop on the headphones and close your eyes and you’re sitting there at the honky-tonk. This song could have been released in the '50s, '70s, '90s or now and been just as good. Absolutely timeless.
Brooke McClymont & Adam Eckersley - Souls On Show
Brooke and Adam have been teasing us with tunes for a few weeks now and it’s finally time for the whole album to shine. Souls On Show is a cracking tune from a cracking record. With their TV appearances ramping up, this could be the year of Aussie country’s favourite couple.
Michael Honan - Be The Whiskey
Warrnambool’s Michael Honan launched his career in COVID and hasn’t looked back. He’s played at CMC Rocks, Groundwater Country Music Festival, Lasso and BIGSOUND. My eyebrow goes up when you see “another” whiskey song, but hell, we’ve had two beers already so when the whiskey’s this good it’s worth a shot.
Max McNown - Comets
He held last year’s most played song on Aussie country radio and we’re a month out from a new album. The record is seventeen tracks and this is the eighth cut out there, so he’s not leaving much to the imagination. This one’s a solid country-pop slice and the perfect way to round out this week’s list.
