CountryTown is proud to announce Newcastle-based country rockers The Viper Creek Band as our Artist of the Week, following the release of his new single, Night Needs You.

The Viper Creek Band formed in 2011 and began writing songs, rehearsing, playing live and building a loyal fan base. By 2014, they were one of the most talked about acts at the Tamworth Country Music Festival. That same year, they toured with McAlister Kemp and made appearances at the Gympie Music Muster and CMC Rocks The Hunter alongside Toby Keith and the Eli Young Band.

They released two EPS – Crazy Tonight (2012) and No One Is Watching (2014) – before their debut album, Kickin' Up Dust. It debuted at #2 on the ARIA Australian Country Albums Chart, with the lead single, Tonight Tonight, hitting #1 on the Australian iTunes Country Singles Chart.

Their 2018 follow up album, Just Press Play, also reached the top 5 on the ARIA Australian Country Albums Chart and spawned four top ten singles. They were nominated for ‘Group or Duo of the Year’ at the CMC Awards in 2015-2017 and the coveted ‘Oz Artist of the Year’ in 2018. The Viper Creek Band were also finalists in ‘Group or Duo of the Year’ at the 2020 Golden Guitars.

The album Beautiful Destruction was released in early 2019 and includes the #1 single Green Light and fan favourite, Australian Girls. The album debuted at #1 on the ARIA Australian Country Album Chart. The band have also toured Australia, the United States, Canada, and New Zealand.

People Drinkin’ Beer, The Power of Music and new single, Night Needs You are the first tracks to be released as the band celebrates 10 years of making music with more music on the way. Night Needs You is a sexy, flirtatious song about a romantic encounter, lyrically capturing and recounting a one night stand full of passion and desire.

Lead singer, Damien Baguley, who grew up in a small town of Narrabri in northwest New South Wales, has been playing everything from pop to classic rock and, of course, country music for over 25 years. His interest in music came from his parents, who were big music lovers, as well as his grandpa, who was a lover of country artists like Slim Dusty

Baguley began playing guitar at 13-years-old. He joined his first band three years later, with Baguley on bass, and began playing local pubs and clubs. Baguley later took on the role of vocalist. They disbanded after high school, and he proceeded to play in a cover band, Valhalla, for 18 years. They released an EP of originals in 2000.

In 2018, Baguley joined Adam Brand on his record breaking, Milestones tour. He also picked up a Rob Potts ‘New Talent Of The Year’ Award at the 2018 CMC Awards for his duo project Tailgate Drive with Troy Kemp. Their debut single, Bury Me In Blue Jeans, was released in late 2017.
