CountryTown in partnership with iHeartCountry Australia is proud to announce Sarah Leete as our Artist Of The Week, following the release of her new single, One That Got Away.
Originally from the Central Coast, and now calling the small country town of Baan Baa in the Narrabri Shire home, Sarah’s love for music began at a young age. Inspired by the lyrically intelligent storytelling of artists like Cat Stevens, Patty Griffin and Neil Young that she grew up listening to, she began writing her own songs and playing guitar at 13-years-old.
After graduating from CMAA Academy of Country Music in 2016 on a full scholarship, she was awarded a Young Regional Artist Scholarship to record her debut self-titled EP just 8 months later. Recorded at Black Wolf Studios and co-produced by five-time Golden Guitar winner Catherine Britt with Michael Muchow, the first single off the EP, Safe reached #11 on the My Country Australia chart.
Sarah has shared the stage with ARIA award-winning artist Fanny Lumsden and Bill Chambers, joined The Viper Creek Band on their 2019 Beautiful Destruction Album Launch Tour and was also one half of the brains behind the Write Like A Girl showcase with Hayley Marsten, which received record crowds. Furthermore, she has toured extensively through regional and metropolitan Australia, and performed at the Gympie Emerging Artist Showcase and Tamworth Country Music Festival.

Combining the no bulls–t artistry of Michelle Branch with the honest and relatable storytelling that the country music format is known for, resulted in her previous single, Nothin’ Special, which debuted at #3 on the iTunes Country Charts and #34 on the iTunes All Genre chart. Her new single, One That Got Away is a song of beautifully balanced melancholy and optimism.
Speaking about One That Got Away, she says, “I loved the sentiment of wishing someone well who had previously meant so much to you even though you are no longer together. [The relationship] got you both to where you are. Melody Moko’s song, Benjamin, inspired the idea, and about a month after hearing that for the first time, an ex of mine posted on social media about getting engaged to his new girlfriend. It was now something that I could relate to personally, so I sat down to write about it.”
