There’s nothing better than stumbling across a regional bakery and digging into a delicious pie, cake, or pastie – something you can’t find at your regular shops or metropolitan cities.

And if there’s something Australia is renowned for, beyond coffee, sport and entertainment, it’s incredible regional bakeries, often run by families. Small businesses, classic food, yummy coffee. Roadside stops, road-trip worthy cafés and bakeries – the low-key Australian dream.

As you can tell, we’re pretty enthusiastic about this stuff. So, Countrytown asked you, our readers, about the top regional bakeries across Australia, and you came in hot with answers.

Now, we’ve gathered up the answers to present to you. With bakeries in multiple states mentioned to us, we had to make a list of Countrytown’s Best Regional Bakeries in Australia.

Beechworth Bakery, Beechworth, Victoria

Known for a “scrumptious” selection of cakes, pastries, breads, pies, sandwiches, wraps, focaccia, and more, Beechworth Bakery opened in the Victorian suburb of Beechworth in 1984.

Of course, the original location is in Beechworth, but there are other regional areas which have their own: Bendigo, Echuca, and Albury. Plus, if you can’t get out there, there are numerous recipes available to view on the bakery’s website.

Merriwa Bakery, Merriwa, NSW

Loved for its “excellent” variety of delightful home-baked cakes, slices, pies, sausage rolls, breads, and sandwiches, it’s little wonder why Merriwa Bakery features on this list.

Grants Cakes & Pies, Mount Isa, QLD

Grant’s Cakes & Pies isn’t just known for selling cakes and pies; it’s known for having the “best sausage rolls and pies in Mount Isa.” Incredible.

The little bakery also sells an amazing variety of cakes and other desserts, including scones and hot cross buns – the latter a seasonal item for Easter.

Mount Barker Country Bakery, Mount Barker, WA

Mount Barker Country Bakery is home to national award-winning pies and cakes, plus the staff will make sure you have fresh coffee or a cold drink if you’re stopping by.
